Antiq was born Antoinette Korboe on February the 11th in Ghana which is where her father Peter Korboe is from. Her mother Mary Kuvendjen is from Togo which is also located in West Africa. Antiq migrated to New Zealand at the age of three in 1992 with her mother to join her father and has lived there ever since. Antiq began to sing at twelve by joining her school choir but became less active in singing after her Intermediate years.

Antiq admits, "I've always had an interest in singing but used to concentrate on dancing instead by taking classes and joining talent quests."

This was mainly because of the fact she used to feel intimidated by other singers and felt she didn't have enough confidence at the time to sing in front of people, but Antiq realized that, in order for her to accomplish her dream, she needed to overcome that... and she did. Antiq is very different as a music artist with unique talent to offer. The name Antiq seems perfect for the young lady because of her unusual background, upbringing, and style of music.

"I try to incorporate my music with a variety of styles and aim to write about issues that seem to appeal to adolescents in this generation."

Antiq claims that her music may not always necessarily relate to herself but may relate to her audience out there.
