  Making music in a small city is hard, especially when you factor in a lack of a music scene. Welcome to Frankfort, capital of Kentucky, and home to an emerging Hip-Hop group known as the Basement Upstairs. This crew consists of four Emcees: Hybrid, Phorensicz, Matty Ritch, and Boonie, all of which have known and rapped with each other for almost 10 years. The group blends four different Hip-Hop lyrical styles together that has allowed them to create a sound that many would classify as a "new sound" with an "old school" feel. It is this label that has earned the group hundreds of fans locally, and has allowed them to expand their music outside the boundaries of the "Capitol City" and into other towns in Kentucky, as well as several other states. It has also secured several paying gigs for the group at two popular nightspots in Frankfort, The Brick Alley and The Bottom, both places unfamiliar with the concept of live Hip-Hop shows, but allowed the Basement to perform numerous occasions and continue to do so today.
