Codebreakers music appeals to people who can still remember what it was like when a song wasnt about genreit was about emotion. When I was in high school, I was listening to hardcore and disco, and they made me feel the same way: honest elation, Hawley says. I couldnt feel a strong affinity toward either the rock or rave scenes around me at the timeit's like they both had it half right and half completely wrong. What I took is something with more personality to it and combined that with the attitude of a 14-year-old discovering their first real punk record. By the early 21st centurya time they were born for, reallyCodebreaker had accomplished that mission on stages in their native Milwaukee, where their audiences were diverse but united in their loathing for the commonplace. It wasnt until January 2003 that the eight-song mini-classic Spacecamp Luxury affixed their promise to recorded permanence. If the move from stage to studio was a problem, its not evident on Spacecamp Luxury or the six-song 2, which came out in October 2003; its something Codebreaker took care of behind the scenes.
I definitely approach it from that point of view, trying to make something that someone can pop in five years from now and still find relevant, timeless, tasteful, and with a lot of staying power. My primary objective is putting out records that make people feel like they've discovered a new best friend. With their newest work What Is This Earth Love? to be released in June of 2005, Codebreaker still have the listener in mind, with the caveat that the listener be willing to follow them in new directions.
So far, their music has been featured on the Discovery Channel, Style Network, The Copper Label promo compilation(3 million pressed) , MTG, and various regional programming.
Codebreaker has played with such groups as VHS Or Beta, Soviet, Radio 4, Stereo Total, Har Mar Superstar, Add N To X, I Am The World Trade Center, Electric Six, Phoenix, and many more...
