Music Influences
Music Influences
Hoo boy. These come from all over the musical map. Naturally, and obviously, we've been deeply influenced by all the well-known acoustic singer/songwriters -- Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, every combination of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and/or Young, the late Jim Croce and his partner/lead guitarist Maury Muehleisen, Seals & Crofts, Paul Simon (with and without Art Garfunkel), and too many others to mention. But you'll also hear elements of country, bluegrass, Southern rock, and other classic rock music: the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Marshall Tucker Band, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Doobie Brothers, the Eagles, Bad Company, Hank Williams, Hank Williams Jr., Willie Nelson, Kathy Mattea, a long list of musicians associated with bluegrass and/or "newgrass" and/or "jamgrass," and -- again -- too many others to mention. Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, and Rush belong on the list of influences as well, even though we don't sound anything like them at all. There are undoubtedly lots of others that we've forgotten to list. (Pink Floyd, Al Stewart, America . . . ) And not all of them are "recent" even by the standards of our generation; our cover material includes our own arrangements of such Great American Songbook gems as Summertime, Ain't Misbehavin', and Fly Me To The Moon. And no doubt there's plenty of other world music that deserves mention here -- Irish and Scottish folk music, for instance. Speaking of which, one of our current favorite bands is the Old Blind Dogs (a Scottish group of whom Scott has been a fan for about ten years now; he introduced Rob to them a few years ago). Scott is also a fan of Railroad Earth, an acoustic jam band out of the New Jersey area who really ought to get to Ohio more often.
