Hello My name is Anthony G I just recently heard about your agency and Im just seeing if I can qualify. I have been playing music since my dad taught me to play the Piano Age 11. My sister and I remember dancing around the piano to my Dads beat and rhythm. He was playing "Alley Cat" A jazzy piano solo. I pursued to then play a musical instrument because I liked the beat of the music and the way the rhthym made me feel. I enjoyed the beat so much that I joined the orchestra in 6th grade. I was involved with playing the violin.
Why the Violin I will never know but I couldnt play the Violin because my hands were too big I believe. However I played in many concerts in the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th 10th 11th grade. I enjoyed the orchestra sessions but it was not my potential. I was too afraid to tell the teacher and my interest rocketed to other ideas as I was in Orchestra learning the Violin. There were many times that I heard other music when I was playing Violin and many different tunes came to mind. My teachers were in 6th grade to 8th Mrs. Ham. Mrs. Ham taught at a university level because we couldnt understand her most of the time. She was very discouraged with me and knew that I had other talents as far as musical. She did give me personal lessons on the Violin many times and told to practise but I really liked the concerts and the people that I met. However, it was just middle school but we did have a full house most of the time. I think that the four strings were a burden on me and I didnt enjoy that I couldnt play the Violin with my hands like a guitar. Why a guitar I'll never know but I did like showing that I could. There were many times I sat in front and strummed the Violin like a guitar in class. Okay from 9th-11th grade my teacher was Mrs Eads. Mrs. Eads loved to teach Orchestra. She put her heart and soul in each student and made them go full capacity to their musical extent. However I still didnt feel that the violin was my instrument and so I kept hearing different notes and sounds. I know that sounds a bit weird but the sounds and chords matched later in my life and they eventually became songs from the chords that I played on Piano. I didnt know piano at the time but I would go into the practise rooms and play my dads songs by ear. I especially love the one called 'Go mow the lawn" its a rhthm and blues song thats like boogie woogie style. Well I was so discouraged that I finally decided to quit Orchestra and go into the Choir in school and Church. I was a member of the "Gulf Palms Assembly of God" I was heavily attended choir in church I didnt miss much of that. I was singing in a choir that was very small but we enjoyed the company of each other. We sang quite a bit. None of had training but we still had a full house every concert especially Christmas time. Boy I loved that time it was just great to get up there and sing with the little choir we had and see people forget there troubles and sing along with us. We had such a big outcome of people for the music that the church had a yearly festival of music. We had all the churches from all around different congregations to see and hear us in the choir. this went on for several years and we began to grow more and more. However I still felt that I wanted more things to do and more knowledge of the musical field. So I started watching the audio guys and how they produced the sound of music that everybody heard. Im not really a technical guy but I do know how to
set up a basic stage. We had so many musicians come and go from our church that the choir became locally known. Boy I remember a rhthm guitarist named Mr. Densel singing and playing with all he knew. You know the room felt like it changed and whatever Densel said people listened. We had a small band of piano, guitar, bass, drums. I dont think anyone could have danced enough without the drum player but she was very limited in her playing. Anyways back to school now. Okay so I went to South Houston High School. So back to high school, well I was singing in the choir and I actually did try out for the part in regionals. I didnt think I made it but I did. We had to sing a part in "Handels Sing unto God" I wont ever forget that piece because I was so tired of doing the part. Well in highschool I was so tired of working on pieces and I needed some fun time or a break. I was in love with someone in the choir, but she hated me. Guess I was too weird for her. I loved her singing though her name was Devin Molina.
