Called a %u201Cdiamond in the rough%u201D by some of his superiors, Jesse Dietschi is one of the current young generation%u2019s brightest future stars. The new bassist for the Michael Cain Trio was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and has quickly gained acclaim as a skilled and versatile musician, gigging regularly on double-bass, as well as both fretted and fretless electric basses, and in styles ranging from rock, blues, contemporary jazz, big band, orchestral, chamber, reggae, funk, and electronica. These skills were recognized by internationally-renown strap and case manufacturer Levys Leathers, who placed Jesse on their Artist Endorsers roster when he was only 16. A student of Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra Assistant Principal bassist Stan Label, as well as such notable jazz musicians as Miguel Zenon, Michael Cain, and Frasier Hollins, Jesse is highly-trained in both classical and jazz settings, and puts these skills to use in a variety of highly-unique ways. Jesse Dietschi has performed in a wide variety of settings with a variety of artists, including great classical musicians such as Japanese pianist Kyoko Hashimoto (McGill University), Canadian Sinfonietta Concertmaster Joyce Lai, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra principle cellist Yuri Hooker, Calgary Symphony Orchestra assistant principle clarinetist Jocelyn Colquhoun. Jesse has also performed with renown jazz musicians such as Boston saxophonist Greg Gatien (Brandon University), Winnipeg pianist Ron Paley, and international recording artist Michael Cain, whose trio Jesse currently plays with. Jesse has played venues and festivals such as the Canada Day ScotiaBank Mainstage at the Forks in Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Jazz Festival, Brandon Jazz Festival, Brandon Folk Festival, Winnipeg%u2019s Le Foyer jazz club, Saskatoon%u2019s Lydia%u2019s Pub, as well as many other clubs and festivals across Western Canada.
COMPOSER
In addition to a steady performance schedule, Jesse has been slowly growing his reputation as a composer. He spent 3 years as the principal songwriter for the independent funk group the NuPhunk Orchestra, which enjoyed widespread success across Central Canada. He has also currently in the process of completing a Jazz/String Double Quartet project, which he expects to record in the upcoming months.
EDUCATOR
For almost as long as he has been performing, Jesse Dietschi has also kept busy as an educator. Starting his first private studio at age 17, he now has students spanning multiple cities, and has been the bass clinician for the City of Selkirk Summer Band Camp for the past 4 years straight. In 2008, Jesse was hired as the jazz bass clinician for the International Music Camp, held in the historic International Peace Gardens in North Dakota.
