Myke Rock was born in 1963 in Columbus, Ohio. His father played electric guitar around the house from time to time and piqued Rock's interest in music, sparking exploration. Around age 11, Rock began to play bongos in school talent shows. Bongos, led to congas, and congas led to drums, all the while touching on guitar and then a spot of bass. At 13, he taught his sister Nina to play basic but solid drums and his sister Beth to play unconventional 2, 3 and 4 string guitar chords he calls "bass chords". Rock, of course, took on bass duties. The threesome went on to
play ~and win!~ a number of parks and recreation department talent shows, rewarded by playing at the Ohio State Fair. The local CBS affiliate WBNS-TV broadcasted the show called "Schoolies". At 15, Rock quit school to play bass for one of Columbus' first punk rock bands Screaming Urge, almost immediately throwing himself into the role of booking agent. Rock booked and played tours of the Midwest, East Coast, Southeast (as far as Texas), and parts of Canada,while staging annual, semi-annual and occasional nightclub-sized music festivals.
