Patrick Anderson, AKA Nice Guy Finishing Last, resides in Daly City, CA. A few years ago, he grew tired of always wanting to take the music that he made in different directions than his fellow band mates were willing to let him. He started his music career by playing strictly what others wanted him to play. He started lending a helping hand as he grew more confident in his abilities. Eventually, the day came that he realized that something was wrong. He understood that the music was his number one passion, but he didn't want to be a part of any of his previous music projects, anymore. The problem isn't that he's not a team player. His friends are very important to him and any opinions they have to lend to his music are appreciated, but he feels the only way he will ever be satisfied is if he does everything himself. He's played trumpet for the Alley Katz, as well as two separate bands named the Glass Orb Ensemble. He played drums for the band Jimmy Hooter and the shut the F#ck Ups. He almost played guitar for an unnamed punk band that never played any gigs, although he decided not to pursue this project. None of the other members of the last band mentioned would give him the satisfaction of having freedom of expression. This was the band that threw him over the edge into the world of being a solo musician. He started out by playing a punk riff that he was working on and when the band went into the chorus, he changed the style and played something that sounded classical. He feels that it sounded good, but the lead singer freaked out and started yelling that this wasn't punk. The rest of the band followed suit and verbally attacked him. The other members didn't say that they didn't like the music, but they were angry because it didn't fit a formula. "Music is not a math equation", Patrick argues. "It shouldn"t have rules." Patrick told the rest of the band that he's a part of this band and if the band wants to keep him, then they'll have to compromise. A shouting match ensued and Patrick grabbed his guitar and his amp and he walked out on the rehearsal. He grabbed his four track as soon as he got home and he started creating his own music and playing all of his own instruments. This was the birth of Nice Guy Finishing Last. He has always wanted his music to be different. If you ask him what he likes most about himself, he will tell you that he "is his own man and won't do anything just because it's the cool thing to do." Patrick Anderson loves his music, but there is a lot that he doesn't agree with. For instance, he hates how "almost every song on the radio has a catchy chorus that gets repeated over and over and over again, until I want to shoot myself just a little bit more every time the singer sings that line. Meanwhile, the rest of the song is so crappy and unthought out that it leaves me begging for the band to get back into the chorus until I'm left on the brink of insanity." That is why a large percentage of the songs that he writes don't include a chorus. After hearing his story, I'm guessing that you want to hear his music. Give it a try and I'm pretty sure that you'll like it. I know that I do.
