OUTSIDE THE BOX: A thought or Idea that is unlike the norm yet constitutes progression.
What is in a name; in 2002, Regional heavy hitting band “Phungusamungus” parted ways, leaving a Front man with no band and a DJ with no ambition. The two being friends for years decided to make a fresh start. After many great ideas and concepts, the two decided on a sound that was unique, yet easy to listen to. With the addition of a bassist from another regional band, “Room 123” the concept was made true. The new “Power house” was called, “Going Nowhere”. With Brillo on Vocals and Guitar, former DJ Sympol, now known only by his given name Josh, and the addition of Ryan Perre, the group Going Nowhere was now moving forward as a team. After two long years of touring up and down the East coast, the unit not quite feeling the “unity” it once did decided that it would be best to part ways… Again, the Front man/Guitarist (Brillo) and the Former DJ and now Drummer (Josh) are left with a void.
One afternoon, out of the blue, Brillo received a phone call. It was former Phungus guitar player Tommy Canup. The two talked for a while and decided that it would be the best interest of both to combine forces, but there was still something lackingÂ… a bass player. Brillo called former Phungus bassist Eli Rhodes, and even though the three feared there might be some underlying animosity, Eli gallantly came to the call.
The first practice with Brillo, Tommy, Eli, and Josh… the first time they have played together in over five years. It simply felt like home to all four. It seemed like all four players were totally different people, once trapped inside a “box” of conformity, now looking “OUTSIDE THE BOX”. The new amalgamation of the four are geared up and ready to join the world with a new method of musical thinking… thinking OUTSIDE THE BOX.
