I entered into the Army Band program in March of 1999. After basic training, I was off to the Army School of Music in Norfolk, VA. I would spend the next six months undertaking a steady diet of theory, scales, sight-reading, improvisation, and much more. Upon graduation from the School of Music, I received a promotion and was on the way to my first and last duty station, Wiesbaden, Germany. My tour took me all over Europe and beyond: England, Poland, the Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and even Egypt. I learned a great deal about myself and about life. Since my return to the states, I received the honor of performing in Asia on a contract as an entertainer. I spent six months in Hamaotsu, Japan (ten minutes south of Kyoto) playing in a Dixie band with three Australians on a paddleboat as it putted around Lake Biwa, the biggest body of water in Japan. It was surreal, to say the least. The people, the vibrant culture, and the ambience of Japan are something I will not soon forget. I am now a twenty-nine year old freelance trumpet player with a humble history to look back upon. I've performed on four continents with the trumpet as my vehicle. I can't think of a more enriching life to live and I feel blessed for the good fortune I have received to date.
