Subrata De born in Jamshedpur (Jharkhand-India) was initiated in the art of playing Hindustani Classical Music - Sitar at the tender age of seven under the guidance of Shri Amarjeet Singh of Jamshedpur and later on obtained training from Suramani Bauri Bandhu Sethi of Bhubaneswar, Orissa from where he has imbibed the essential elements of Sitar with great devotion and after 10 years he placed himself in the hands of Sitar Maestro Pandit Manilal Nag of Calcutta of Vishnupur Gharana, with strict discipline and sincerity ,to learn extensively the Dhrupad and Vadan Style(Gayaki), Tankari, Alapang, Gatkari etc. of Vishnupur Gharana and now has become an accomplished sitar player .His Father Shri Bhutnath De is also an eminent vocalist of Hindustani Classical Music. Now, Subrata is involved with various musical organisations as a lecturer in Sitar.
God's blessing and it may sound incredible, he has always kept his head bowed. Indian music is an ocean, and he thinks he is tinier than a drop. He realises that he exists because of the subject.
Subrata's Music is spontaneous expression of powerful emotions and his deep knowledge of the Sitar. Subrata's style retains the depth, resonance and sensitivity of "Sur" in Alap as well as laying stress on the subtle and lilting phrasing of the Jhala. Through this combination, he brings to perfection the delicacy and sentimental mood of every Raga. He is a master of improvisation and possesses the rare ability to breathe life and originality into a classical theme, thereby molding it into a living and captivating form. The outstanding qualities of Subrata's performances are his maturity, incredibly sweet and melodious presentation of his instrument, and his imaginative development in the true form of Vishnupur Gharana. Subrata has given numerous performances in various International & major festivals all over India and many countries in abroad namely Switzerland, Finland, Estonia, Cuba, Brazil, Panama, Guatemala, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Nicaragua, Peru, Columbia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Paraguay, USA, Armenia, Austria, Ireland, Holland,Germany,Denmark,Italy,Muscat,Doha, Sweden, South Africa, Reunion, South Korea, Hong Kong%u2026.. , as a Solo and an Accompanist and also dedicated himself to extend and create an environment of Classical Music in rural areas of India and in Abroad with leading organizations. His high aesthetic sense, and artistic sensibilities along with his inner soft nature gave recognition both in home and aboard as an eminent soloist as well as an adept accompanist. His perfect restrained tuneful music enthralled the global audience.

Indian music has an unbroken musical tradition in the world. Indian music is called as "Sangeet" consisting of vocal music, instrumental music and dance. "Rag" and "tal" define the present day Indian music streams of Hindustani Sangeet and Carnatic Sangeet. There are many musical instruments that are peculiar to India and many are left without due recognition. Indian music is believed to be developed from Vedas and developed within a very complex interaction between different peoples of different races or cultures to define Indian culture. However the recent scenario is that Indian society is biased away from Indian classical music by judging it as something beyond " common " perception.
There is a stinging discernment among majority of the Indian youth that music for youth means Western music. Even those who love Indian music will be forced to shut their opinions due to the fear that their peers will ridicule them. However this is not the scenario outside India. They are getting authentic knowledge about Indian classical music and enjoy the same in the real spirit. There are some ambitious steps to eliminate this upcoming disaster to the Indian Classical Music.
Indian musicians must be given a platform to perform their divine talents and there must be genuine support for them from the society. Indian musicians on the other hand must be able to define their art to their audience in a contemporary manner rather than upholding the traditional style of presentation. Moreover there is nothing beyond common man's perception in Indian classical music. The power of music is Universal and each of us has the right and liability to preserve this unbroken musical tradition ,which led Swaranjali to have many concerts like ...
