Springing up out of the lush and blossoming Ottawa music scene, newly energized by bands like the Hi-Lo Trons and The Recoilers, comes one of the most explosive and creative acts in the Nations Capital. Since the formation of the band in May of 2003, The Coggs have electrified audiences with their thunderous, blues-driven rocknroll, which is not only relevant to contemporary pop music of the past few years, but also incorporates more traditional roots from Chicago, Memphis, and the Delta.
The backbone of this exciting trio is a solid foundation of rhythm and groove, laid down by bassist Travis Hood and drummer Mike Brittain, and is built beneath raw, riff-heavy guitar licks and melodic, soulful vocal lines from front-man Jeff Coghill. Perhaps the most note-worthy quality of The Coggs as a creative force is the almost supernatural song writing talent of Jeff Coghill. Simple, yet penetrating, Coghills songs capture the listeners attentions from the very first phrase and hold sway until the very last chord.
At present The Coggs are residing at The Rainbow, Ottawas Premier House of Blues, playing every Friday from 5-7pm. The band plays regularly at other major venues around the City of Ottawa, and also has toured outside the city around North and North-Eastern Ontario. In the coming months The Coggs will be keeping very busy, going back into the studio to record a full-length CD to add to their collection.
