The Rest is a Halifax based independent band. Formed in the summer of 2004, we have two releases to our credit so far: an EP called Picnic Spirit that was released early in the fall of 2004 and a full length album called All Up For Grabs that came out just before Christmas.

We are currently a two-piece: Todd Michalik writes and plays strings, Joy Suttle percusses, and both of us arrange the songs. All of the songs on our newest album are originals, recorded in the livingroom at Joy's place (a.k.a. Wooden Nickel Studio).

Our musical tastes vary, but definitely fall within the scope of what might be termed old school. The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Kinks, The Jam, English Beat, Paul Westerberg and the Replacements, Big Star, and many of their like tend to be the reliable favourites that grace our turntables. Our sound is both somewhat and nothing like any of these bands, but is more or less in their spirit with varation from straight ahead rock & roll to pop and folky country, with lots of cross-over in between.
